HitFlip is a UK company who provide a swapping service for audio books, books, DVDs, games and music CDs.
I’ve just checked over their service to find out exactly what they do and provide.
Hitflip enables the physical exchange of media products. With every swap that takes place, ownership of the swapped item is transferred to the recipient. Hitflip is therefore perfectly legal.
They seem to have around 600,000 items to swap, which is a sizeable number, and they add new items every hour.
Flips are the ‘currency’ used on Hitflip. You receive flips when trading your offered media products with other Hitflip members. Alternatively, you can purchase flips. You can swap flips for items that are on your wish list.
Prices start from only 79p to swap an item and there are no dreaded subscription costs to take into account. In fact, they offer your first item free of charge just for signing up - a kind of incentive to try out the HitFlip service. The easiest way to get flips is to offer items, which you don’t want anymore, for swap. As soon as another member requests one of your items you get the appropriate number of flips in return.
Now, I realise that a system like this is open to abuse from unscrupulous punters, but HitFlip provide a useful guarantee:
The Hitflip guarantee protects you from ‘black sheep’ who misuse our platform. If a member sends you a media product that does not work, we’ll reimburse your transaction fees immediately, and we’ll remove the media product in question from our system. The guarantee also applies if flips have been subtracted from your account but the other member has not posted your requested media product. In such a case, we’ll reimburse your flips immediately. We reserve the right to ban members who abuse the Hitflip guarantee.
Sounds reasonable as I could see customers being ripped off without this sort of protection.
